From the Journals: DAY 54

Coach

Campsite, view - Waynesboro, VA: 13.2 mi

Finally, we had a day where we kind of took our time breaking camp. It was a fairly easy hike into Waynesboro. We hiked out and got a ride from a grandmother out with her daughter and granddaughters. They were very nice and it really helped our resupply day go much more smoothly. While doing laundry, we had the best malt milk shakes with homemade ice cream. I went with the chocolate mint and the Professor had the vanilla raspberry. After this little piece of heaven, we went to pick up a few things at the Dollar General Store, only to find a customer and cashier in a screaming match. We quickly turned around, crossed the street, and went to the Family Dollar Store, where good wholesome family values remain.

A deer was eating grass next to me last night. I opened my eyes and there it was. Almost could have touched it. Easy hike into Waynesboro. Met a family when we got to the Visitor's Center. More trail magic, more trail angels in the form of a Grandmother, mother and her two daughters. They gave us a ride to the post office and to our motel. Amazing the hospitality we've run into.
